The 2015 Ford F-150 Snow Plow Prep Option
We have begun taking orders on the new Snow Plow Prep Option for the new 2015 Ford F-150.
It’s been one of those winters. The long kind where by this time of year we find our thoughts drifting (sorry for the pun) to warm, sunny beaches. Maybe in your dream you’re holding a tropical drink with an umbrella, letting the sun do its thing. Sadly, you’re not on a beach right now. You’re most likely here in Pittsburgh trying to remember what the sun felt like, and dreading the fact that those tiny little snowflakes are still popping up in the extended forecast. The reality is, we still have some winter left. We know this because Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow. We know that a lot of snowplows are limping along on their last leg, so we wanted to get you a little more information about The 2015 Ford F-150 Snow Plow Prep Option.
As of right now, the 2015 Ford F-150 is the only light duty pickup with a manufacturer’s snow plow prep option across all cab configurations. The plow prep option works with the Regular, SuperCab, and SuperCrew cab configurations, however the F-150 has to be powered by the 5.0-liter V8 engine with four-wheel drive. The added power is essential for the plow to be effective.
It is actually still somewhat rare to see a half-ton pickup clearing streets and lots. Many fleet managers, business owners, and average Joe’s have been under the impression that Super Duty and medium duty trucks are needed to handle above-average snowfall. But that’s just not the case anymore. When Ford redesigned the all-new F-150 for the 2015 model year, they made sure the world’s best selling truck would be the neighborhood savior, and the worksite MVP.
The reason Ford trucks are the most used trucks in the United States for snow removal has a lot to do with the high-strength steel frame. The same frame that is in the medium duty trucks owned and operated by municipalities across the country is the foundation of the 2015 Ford F-150.
“The new 2015 F-150 is the toughest F-150 ever, and by using more high-strength steel in its frame and advanced materials in the body, we’ve made the new truck up to 700 pounds lighter,” said Eric Peterson, Ford F-150 marketing manager. “This leads to more capability and better handling, which is exactly what you’d want for plowing. Adding a snow plow prep kit to our lineup helps ensure our customers have even more tools at their disposal to get the job done.”
The plow prep option is $50, with the plow itself sold separately. It requires some small changes to the software program via the dedicated plow switch on the instrument panel, and an additional wire to the joystick toggle. Here at Allegheny Ford, there is no need for the hassle of a third party installation process. Any additional wiring and under-frame hardware additions can all be done here in-house with your plow to get you onto those snow-covered roads in no time.
How it works is pretty awesome. Dedicated power is transferred from all nonessential truck components to the plow with a simple push of a button installed on the dashboard. No additional alternator is needed. The plow, then, is intuitively operated with an easy-to-use joystick. Take a look.
We’ve begun taking orders for the Plow Prep Option with the new 2015 Ford F-150. As more people see how easily the plow prep option can be ordered and installed, we anticipate quite a few more orders before this season is through, and a flood of new prep options installed ahead of next winter’s first snowfall. If your current truck and plow combination was built long before the era of record snowfall, and if you currently find yourself unable to clear the way like you once could, we can absolutely help get you up to speed. Let us know if you have any questions or would like more information on the plow prep option for the new 2015 Ford F-150.
Now you can go back to dreaming about that beach, the warm sun, and that little umbrella in your drink.
