Weight matters

When towing loads and gear to job sites, weight matters. Ford has built off the success of introducing aluminum to the body and bed of the F-150, and for the first time the 2017 Ford F-450 Super Duty chassis sees its own body panels upgraded to aluminum alloy. The 2017 F-450 Super Duty’s frame is constructed of 95% high-strength steel, making it 24 times stiffer than the previous version. A lighter trucks means a more efficient truck, giving you much better fuel efficiency than the competition.

“By switching over to an all-aluminum body, Ford was able to cut 350 pounds compared to the previous model, while reinforcing and strengthening the entire truck.” AutoBlog

Built to Tow

Ford’s 2017 F-450 Super Duty chassis was built to tow.

The F-450 has a class-leading maximum load capacity of 7,630 lbs for the 2017 model. Even more impressive is the F-450’s ability to tow a maximum of 32,500 pounds with a gooseneck trailer (thanks to the stiffened box), which is 1,300 lbs more than the 2016 model. Of course, towing a heavy load is only half the battle. The Adaptive Steering feature on the 2017 F-450 Super Duty chassis can reduce the amount of wheel input needed during low-speed operations, while it reduces sensitivity to steering input when towing at higher speeds. For 2017 available adaptive cruise control with automatic braking, in-cab tire-pressure monitoring and lane-departure warning features appear on the F-450 Super Duty chassis for the first time.

Up to seven cameras are available on the 2017 Ford F-450 Super Duty chassis, making it a breeze to back up and connect a trailer then keep a watchful eye on the load during transit. The blind-spot warning system with trailer tow modifies its warning to account for the length of the trailer. The 2017 Ford F-450 Super Duty chassis also comes with Ford’s latest Sync 3 infotainment and an 8.0-inch screen that makes monitoring all those cameras a snap.

Ford has three powerful engine options for the 2017 F-450 Super Duty chassis for sale in Pittsburgh. The first is the 6.7-liter turbodiesel Power Stroke V8 that still puts out 440 horsepower, but  the torque increases to 925 pound-feet of torque – up from 860 lb-ft in the 2016 model. The 6.2-liter gas V8 also receives an increase in torque – from 405 lb-ft to a class-leading 430 lb-ft. Last but not least is the 6.8-liter gas V10 putting out an impressive 424 lb-ft of torque.

“This is the best heavy-duty truck we’ve ever made,” says Doug Scott, Ford truck marketing manager. “We listened to our customers and created the toughest, smartest and most capable Super Duty ever.”

Motor Trend named the 2017 Ford Super Duty Truck of the Year. “With its latest Super Duties, Ford has set new benchmarks for capability and functionality,” says Motor Trend’s Scott Evans. “Putting the competition on notice and forcing them to catch up is a hallmark of an Of The Year winner. Consider the bar raised.”

The 2017 Ford Super Duty was named the ‘Truck of Texas’ by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA). “Ford’s all-new 2017 Super Duty and its innovative use of advance materials, as well as improvements in powertrain and features, thoroughly impressed our journalists,” says TAWA President Nic Phillips.
